Da'Gullah Rootz's is a roots reggae band that brings Gullah and Geechee Style lyrics over classic Reggae rhythms. Our influences and melodies are as ecletic and diverse as the culture we represent. Da'Gullah Rootz seemlessly intermingles Ska, Rub-a-Dub, Rockers, Dancehall, Toastin; and Roots flavors into the most original "riddems' in music today.

Rahn "Bam Bam" Grimball aka "Maven Clarke"

Rahn is a native Charlestonian, with family roots in the South Carolina low country going back as far as the Charleston Slave Trade. At the age of 14, he was given the gift of a drum set from his Mother. He soon started on his musical path by playing those drums in church, which led to his playing for his high schoolo stage band. He would continue to play at Benedict College, perfecting his skills as an accomplished musician.

In the early eighties, Rahn was introduced to Reggae music by his brother Antonio, who was engulfed in the reggae genre. Bam Bam, as he was affectionately called, soon got his first opportunity to play reggae professionally with an impromptu session with reggae artist Lance Starr. From that point on, he knew this was his life's work.

Rahn would start in on a promotional trek that led to his promoting reggae shows to the Charleston area. International acts like Jah Works, Midnight Reggae Band and Mystic Reggae Band, of whom Bam Bam would dhare the stage with, on occassions. He would also start his own group called the Inner City Band, which, to the delight of their fans, would play throughout the Tri-City area, enabling him to meet numerous musicians about town.

Rahn would see Da'Gullah Rootz playing in many places to excited fans, fueling his desire to perform reggae music. Only then did The Most High know what would be in store. In February 2005, Bam Bam would receive a phone call from percussionist ChazAkeem of Da'Gullah Rootz, inviting him to join forces with the dynamic group. Rahn eagerly accepted the chance to play along side a band of musicians with such raw talent. "I called Rahn simply because he is one of the best drummers I have heard in many years, possessing a pure talent within the many contexts of rhythms", says ChazAkeem. Also, to his credit, Rahn has played with Selah, Mul-Tye, Sixxx, platinum R&B artist Jon B. and platinum rap artist Juvenile as well as a host of others.
